Amenities and Resources
Residence Life
Packing List
Residence hall rooms are furnished with the following items (one per student): extra-long twin bed, closet or wardrobe, bureau, desk and chair. Rooms also have wired and wireless internet.
Housekeeping
Our housekeeping staff is responsible for the routine cleaning of public areas such as hallways, common bathrooms (including Walgreen Hall suites) and lounges. Resident students are responsible for keeping their rooms clean. We provide toilet tissue but not cleaning supplies.
All private bathrooms are cleaned during winter and spring breaks. During these breaks, residents should remove all personal items from the bathrooms to allow housekeeping to clean these areas effectively and thoroughly.
Laundry
All campus residences are equipped with washers and dryers. (Walgreen Hall residents have access to the laundry room in Miley Hall.) Laundry costs are included in room and board fees, so the machines do not require payment to cycle.
Maintenance and Repairs
Our facilities department is responsible for all tasks associated with maintenance and repairs for campus apartments, residence halls and other facilities. Our carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers and trades workers help to maintain a quality living environment for students.
Routine maintenance requests can be submitted through the building repairs request system. You can also use this system to track the progress of your request. Work is completed as soon as possible but is prioritized according to its urgency, type of repair and date received.
Wi-Fi and Wired Ports
Wi-Fi access is available in all residence halls. Wired ports can be used for gaming and entertainment systems (Xbox, PlayStation, AppleTV, Roku) in addition to supplementing wireless access for computers. Students should not bring their own wireless access points or routers for use in the residence halls.
Parking
First-year resident students may not have vehicles on campus or within the city of Newport during the academic year (September-May). Upper-level resident students must register their vehicles through Public Safety and are assigned parking on campus.
We utilize a one-car, one-space policy and vehicles may not be used for on-campus transportation from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. This includes all campus parking lots (other than the one assigned) and city streets adjacent to the University.
Security
Our traditional residence halls are equipped with card-swipe access and are locked at all times. The Office of Public Safety is alerted by alarm when entrances are left open. In conjunction with the Newport police, the offices of Residence Life and Public Safety meet with first-year students in the residence halls to discuss issues pertaining to personal safety, crime and alcohol.
